Wild About You

Hey friends, I’m back with another card made with my beautiful African Safari stamp set. It’s a different size of card this time. I made a 4 ¼ inch square card. This was actually my first time making this size of card. It’s always good to overcome a challenge in life.

This card was inspired by Craft Roulette. If you’ve never been a part of Craft Roulette, I seriously encourage you to check it out. You can find Craft Roulette on YouTube or go to craftroulette.live to see what it’s all about. I love the inspiration it gives to step out of the box and create a card I normally wouldn’t think of creating. She spins a wheel to find out what parameters she needs to use to create a card. You can create along with her and submit your card to the website. It really is a lot of fun!

This card was inspired by episode 175. The parameters for this episode were 4 ¼ inch square, Craft Roulette colors (which are pretty much colors from a color wheel), something to do with the night, and it had to have a bottom border. So, I created a 4 ¼ inch square card. I used greens and yellowy orange for the colors. My night element is a leopard as leopards do most of their hunting at night. And my bottom border is leaves along the bottom.

Now, to create the card, I first used white Recollections 110lb cardstock to make the card base. Actually, I used that same white cardstock for every part of this card. For the card base, I cut a piece to 4 ¼ x 8 ½ inch. I scored the cardstock at 4 ¼ inches and folded to make the card.

My next layer is a piece of the cardstock cut to 4 x 4 inches. I ran this through my Gemini Jr using the leopard print embossing folder that came with my African Safari stamp set. I attached this to the card base using Bearly Art precision glue.

Next, I stamped several different leaves and the leopard head (all from my African Safari stamp set by Crafty Individuals) onto white cardstock using VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink. I heat set them all using Recollections clear embossing powder and my Wow heating tool.

To color the leopard, I used a tiny blending brush with Tim Holtz distress oxide ink in the spiced marmalade color. I colored the eyes green with a papermate flair pen. I also added more black to the nose using a papermate flair pen.

For the leaves, I used a tiny blending brush with Tim Holtz distress oxide ink in lucky clover and rustic wilderness.

The next part was the tedious part. I fussy cut all the leaves and the leopard. Some of those leaves were not fun to cut out! Especially the one on the right. But, I got it done. I then went around all the pieces I had fussy cut and used a black papermate flair pen to outline the edges of the leaves and leopard. This is a trick I learned from a fellow crafter. It helps those areas that I may not have cut out great. The black blends in with the black ink that’s been embossed.

For the sentiment I chose the ‘wild about you’ sentiment from the same African stamp set. To get it nice and dark I used my MISTI so I could stamp it several times. I used VersaFine Clair nocturne ink and heat set it using Recollections clear embossing powder. To cut it out I used my Gemini Jr and the smallest rectangle from the Spellbinders Nestabilities Curved Rectangles.

I placed all the elements where I wanted them to go and then started the process of gluing them all down using Bearly Art precision glue. I glued the leopard first, making sure to not put glue by his nose or one ear as I knew I wanted to tuck things under those areas. Next, I glued down all the leaves, tucking one under the leopard’s chin. The last piece to glue down was the sentiment, which I tucked under the leopard’s ear. I was really pleased with how this card turned out and I look forward to doing more with this stamp set as well as more cards inspired by Craft Roulette.
