Swirly Happy Birthday

Hey everyone! I hope your day is going well and that you’re finding inspiration for whatever you need today.

Today’s card is another birthday card. I keep saying I need to make more of them as you can never have too many birthday cards. Someone’s always having a birthday.

The card base is 4 ¼ x 5 ½ inches and is made from Recollections white 110lb cardstock. I’ve left it blank inside so there’s lots of room for a personalized birthday message.

For the card front, I cut a piece of Recollections white 65lb cardstock to 4 x 5 ¼ inches. Then, to do something completely different, I went through my large box of The Happy Planner sticker books. I don’t remember which book they came from as I have nearly 50 of those books. Anyway, I chose several rectangle stickers in pinks and blues and stuck them to the cardstock. To give them some texture, I ran the card front through my Gemini Jr. with a heart embossing folder. It’s very subtle but gives a nice little bit of added texture to the card.

Next, I stamped a happy birthday sentiment onto some white cardstock using VersaFine Claire nocturne ink and heat set it with Recollections clear embossing powder. The stamp is from a Recollections birthday set. I looked through my stash of shaped dies and chose a circle to die cut the sentiment. I also die cut a couple of swirly pieces from white cardstock using a Sizzix decorative flourishes set.

I decided I wanted a larger white border around the card front so I trimmed it down to 3 5/8 x 4 7/8 inches. I figured that looked nicer with the white elements I was going to add to the front. I adhered the card front to the card base using Craft double sided glue tape.

To finish this card off, I placed my white pieces on the card, deciding where I wanted them to go. Since the swirly pieces are so thin, I used Bearly Art precision glue to adhere them to the card front. I wanted to pop the sentiment up off the center, so I used some foam tape to adhere it to the card front. This was a great way to use up some of the stickers I have in my stash. These stickers have a paper like texture and then running them through the embossing folder gave them that little extra dimension, so they don’t even really look like stickers, but rather patterned paper. I think I’ll try another similar card. Might even be my next blog post. See you then.
