Potted Plants

Hey friends! This was a fun, but time-consuming card to make. It was only time-consuming because I’m not the greatest at fussy cutting and there was a lot of fussy cutting in this card. I think if I had some better scissors that are meant for fussy cutting it would have been easier. One day I’ll invest in some.

If you’ve read some of my previous blog posts, you may have noticed that I really enjoy watching and participating in Craft Roulette on YouTube on Friday evenings. It’s a great card making challenge that encourages participation. I love it because it helps me think out of the box creatively. The idea of the game is to create a card using the four parameters that are determined by the spin of a wheel. This card was created while watching episode 178. The four parameters for this episode were that it had to be a lady’s card using candy colors and it had to have a plant and use tie dye. It took me a bit to figure out what I wanted to do.

I chose to make an A2 card (4 ¼ x 5 ½ inches) out of white Recollections 110lb cardstock. I have a few different stamp sets that have potted plants, so I knew I wanted to use some of those for the plant element. One of the sets has a sentiment that says, “Hello crazy plant lady” which incorporates the lady card parameter. For the tie dye element, I decided to look through my drawers full of scrapbook paper and found some tie dye scrapbook paper to use. I planned to use that paper to stamp the pots. I chose papers that were the colors of some skittles. I love skittles! So, those ideas fill the parameters for this episode. Now to actually make the card.

I stamped some plant pots onto the tie dye paper using VersaFine Clair nocturne ink and heat set them using Recollections clear embossing powder. I then fussy cut the four pots. Three of them were quite easy to cut. The longer pot was still pretty easy, but had a few more curves.

For the plants, I stamped five different plants using the same ink and embossing powder. Four of the plants were stamped on varying shades of green cardstock. The orchid was stamped on white cardstock and colored using copic markers. This is where the time-consuming part came in. Those plants were not easy for me to fussy cut. But practice is good.

To put this card together, I glued the plants to the pots using Bearly Art glue and then placed them on the card base where I wanted them. I moved them around a bit to get the right placement. When I was happy with how it looked, I used Bearly Art glue to adhere them all to the card base. I stamped the sentiment in the top right corner using VersaFine Clair nocturne ink and heat set it using Recollections clear embossing powder. The top left corner looked like it needed a little something, so I stamped a cute hanging plant using green ink and heat set it using Recollections clear embossing powder. I colored the pot a skittles color using a copic marker.

Two of the plants were from a Craft brand plant stamp set. All the rest of the stamps are from a For the Love of Stamps by Hunkydory stamp set called Potty About Plants.

This card took me a lot of time because there was a lot of fussy cutting, but I think it was definitely worth it as it turned out great! I love the tie dye pots and all the different plants. It fit all the Craft Roulette parameters and made a lovely card.
