Butterfly Dreams

Hey crafty friends! It’s been some time since I’ve written a card blog. The beautiful fall weather has had me out doing some yard work. I’ve also made several cards, just haven’t posted about them in a while. So, here goes.

Today’s card is a pretty butterfly card. I made the A2 (4 ¼ x 5 ½ inch) card from Recollections white 110lb cardstock. I cut a panel from the same cardstock to 4 1/8 x 5 3/8 to use as the card front. I decided to do some ink blending on most of the card front, leaving the left side white. From top to bottom I blended wilted violet, mermaid lagoon, and peacock feathers, all Tim Holtz distress oxide inks. I really like how those colors look together.

I chose to stamp some gorgeous butterflies down the inked side using the three butterflies from the Forever In Time Butterfly Kisses stamp set. I used VersaFine Clair nocturne ink and heat set it using Recollections clear embossing powder.

I decided I wanted a little more black detail so I used some tiny border stamps from the Close To My Heart Real Heroes stamp set. I used the same black ink but chose not to heat emboss.

For the sentiment, I chose ‘Let your dreams take flight’ from the same set as the butterflies. I used the same black ink and clear embossing powder.

This card was looking really pretty, but I decided to step it up a notch with some gold detail. I took a small paint brush and my Windsor & Newton gold ink and flicked some gold all over the card front. I love ink splatters! Then to finish it off I took some gold Gutermann thread and wrapped it around the card front about a quarter from the bottom. Finally, I adhered the card front to the card base using Craft double sided glue tape and this card is ready to go. I love the way the gold shimmers in the light.
