Rainbow Snowflakes

Being that I am still fairly new to card making, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there is such a thing as World Card Making Day! I’d never heard of it until a few days before it happened this year. World Card Making Day was on Saturday, October 7th. Craft Roulette (who I watch on youtube) was live for about 6 hours with several guest crafters creating cards using four specific parameters. The parameters for the event were that the card had to be an A2 size card, the colors had to be rainbow colors, it had to include something to do with nature, and also had to include black dots.

With these parameters, my mind instantly went to a beautiful large wooden stamp I have that is filled with snowflakes. I decided to use rainbow ink on the snowflakes which covers two of the parameters. I almost always make A2 cards so that was an easy parameter to fill. The black dots, well, we’ll come back to that later.

I took my large snowflake stamp out as well as my finger daubers and several Tim Holtz distress oxide inks. I applied the ink to the stamp with the finger daubers in the following order: candied apple, spiced marmalade, fossilized amber, lucky clover, salty ocean, and wilted violet. I stamped this onto a white cardstock panel measuring 4 x 5 ¼ inches. It stamped beautifully! I’ll admit, I was so impressed with it that I stamped several more panels to use on other cards.

I knew that I wanted to stamp the sentiment in black ink on white cardstock and that I was also going to use black dots somewhere. Because of this, I figured it would look really nice if there was a black outline around the card panel. I cut some black cardstock to slightly larger than the panel. I didn’t measure it, just eyeballed it.

I used Forever In Time glue tape runner to adhere the panel to the black cardstock and then also to the card base.

For the sentiment, I chose “Peace on Earth” from a Christmas stamp set I picked up at Michaels. I stamped it onto white cardstock using VersaFine Clair nocturne ink and heat set it with Recollections clear embossing powder. Being that the sentiment fits well in a square shape, I cut it down to 2 x 2 inches.

When I placed the sentiment onto the card it looked a bit washed out. It needed a bit of black around it, too. Using a Tombow Fudenosuke brush pen in black, I traced around the edges of the square. To make it stand out a bit more I popped the sentiment up using foam tape.

Now for the black dots. I have several leftover gems from a diamond painting kit that I often use on cards. I find they’re the perfect size. So, I took some black gems and glued them to the centers of the large snowflakes using Bearly Art glue. I really love this card so much! Who doesn’t love rainbows and who doesn’t love Christmas? I think it was a wonderful combination!

To finish this card off, I decided to stamp a sentiment inside the card along with some snowflakes. I stamped Merry Christmas and Happy New Year using VersaFine Clair nocturne ink. For the snowflakes, I found a few small snowflake stamps in some of my other Christmas stamp sets. I stamped one in each of the rainbow distress oxide colors I’d used on the large stamp. I put red, orange, and yellow in the top right corner and green, blue, and violet in the bottom left corner.

I really enjoyed making this card. I hope it inspires you and brings a smile to your face. May you all have a peaceful Christmas season!
