Inspired by a Candle

Inspiration truly can come from anywhere. Sometimes I enjoy burning the big 3 wick candles from Bath & Body Works. A while ago I was enjoying the smell of the chocolate peppermint cream candle I got last year. It smells so good! As I went to put the lid on it to put the candle out, I noticed the beautiful ornament design on the lid. Right away I wondered if I would be able to ink that up and stamp it onto a card.

When the day came for my experiment, I decided to film it for my YouTube channel. You’ll see that it took me several tries to get it to stamp an impression good enough to use, but it did finally work and I was able to make four cards with the stamped images.

To start off with, I had previously cut several card panels from white cardstock. The panels are 4 x 5 ¼ inches. I used VersaFine Clair tulip red ink to ink the lid of the candle. I then turned the candle upside down and stamped the ornament impression onto a card panel. Unfortunately, I accidentally twisted the candle slightly as I was stamping it and it was very noticeable on the panel. That’s okay, I was prepared with several panels.

On my second try, I decided to take the lid off the candle to be able to press down on more of the ornaments to get a better stamped impression. This worked way better and I did eventually use this panel for a card although I stamped several more times trying to get that perfect impression.

On the last two attempts at stamping, I used a baby wipe to wipe off the ink on the outer circle except for the top. I was pleased with how these turned out as well.

To create the cards, I used the A2 card bases I had previously made from Recollections white 110lb cardstock.  I decided to go with the last panel I stamped for the first card. I looked through my sentiments and found one that said ‘Tis the Season’ and I stamped it above the ornaments using VersaFine Clair nocturne ink.

With the black sentiment, I decided the card would look nicer if there was a thin black border around the card panel, so I grabbed some black cardstock and cut it to fit. I adhered the panel to the card base using Forever In Time glue tape runner, then adhered it to the card base.

I decided to stamp a sentiment inside the card which I stamped with the same nocturne ink. I think it turned out quite well considering this card was created by stamping the lid of a Christmas candle. I did end up making three more cards with the panels I had created.
