Take Time to Rest

In our fast paced society, one thing we sometimes find lacking in our lives is rest. It’s not that rest is unavailable. It’s more so that we don’t prioritize it. There seem to be so many things we need to do, as well as so many things we want to do. For many, rest is not a top priority although many do complain that they don’t get enough of it or there’s not enough time for it. What I’ve learned is that if something is extremely important to a person, they will make time for it. I believe that rest is an important thing to make time for. If we don’t get adequate rest, we tend to find our physical health as well as our mental health on a decline. This card, therefore, is to encourage those who tend to forgo rest for something else. The sentiment on this card says, “Taking time to rest is not a waste of time.” I think many of us need to hear that more often.

I created this card as a part of the fall design team for my local scrapbook store Aall Scrapbook Essentials – Home I am so grateful to have discovered this store nearly a year ago. It has become a lifesaver for finding just the right products for the cards I’m creating. And the staff are super friendly and helpful!

The main product I used for this card is a beautiful ephemera pack by Simple Stories called Simple Vintage Love Story. I chose the large stack of books as for many, reading books is very relaxing and restful. I also chose a pink butterfly. There were so many pieces of ephemera in this pack to choose from and they’re all amazing!

I chose to ink blend spun sugar distress oxide ink over the entire card front and then I splattered Winsor & Newton gold ink all over. Next, I glued down the large stack of books. To the butterfly, I added a strip of foam tape under each wing so that when I glue the body of the butterfly down, the wings will be slightly raised. Bearly Art glue stuck that butterfly body down perfectly. To finish off the card, I stamped the sentiment in VersaFine Clair nocturne ink onto scrap white cardstock, heat set it with clear embossing powder and cut it out. The sentiment is from the Self-Care Sentiments stamp set by Alex Syberia designs. I popped the sentiment up on foam tape and added it to the stack of books.

I hope this card and this blog have helped to encourage you to prioritize some time to rest. Rest is important to live a healthy life. Maybe right now you need to stop what you’re doing for a moment, go make a nice hot cup of coffee or tea and sit down with your favorite book. If not now, please make some time later in the day to rest.
