Hey friends, if you’re into cardmaking or scrapbooking or whatever it is you may be into, I’m sure you know that supplies are not cheap. Many of us have found ways to use our supplies in new and unique ways. We also know the value of using every last bit of ink or paint left on our crafting surface. Today’s card is the product of leftover watercolor paint.
A few weeks ago, I made a Christmas card with rainbow trees. I had die cut several trees, laid them on my glass mat, and painted them with shimmery watercolor paints. I ended up with a lot of watercolor paint left on my mat. Of course, I didn’t want to waste it, so I grabbed a few pieces of white shimmer cardstock and smooshed them into the paint, then set them aside to dry.
Recently I was making cards and picked up those paint smooshed papers. The shimmery watercolor dried beautifully on the shimmer cardstock. Right away, I thought how beautiful they would look as flowers. I grabbed the Florals 29 die set by Elizabeth craft designs and die cut several sizes of flowers. To give them some dimension, I flipped them over onto a foam mat and rubbed the back of them with a stylus. Then, turning them back over, I glued the different sizes together to create some beautiful flowers.
I wanted these flowers to be the focal point so I simply took a white A2 card base, stamped ‘you are loved’ from the self-care sentiments by Alex Syberia designs, splattered a tiny bit of brushed pewter distress mica spray, then glued the flowers onto the card. To finish it off, I glued small water droplet gems in the centers of the flowers.
This card turned out beautifully and allowed me to use up the extra watercolor paint that could have just as easily been wiped up and wasted. What are some ways you use your supplies so you get the best value for your money?
