Strong and Courageous Elephant

Having been to Africa this past March, I was super excited to find an African stamp set recently. Of course, I had to purchase it! For this card I chose to use the elephant and the beautiful African trees.

So, to start off with, I cut a card front from Recollections white 110lb cardstock to 4 x 5 ¼ inch. I decided to ink blend the card front to make a beautiful background. I used my Ranger domed foam blending tools and two of my Tim Holtz distress oxide inks. I chose dried marigold and hickory smoke. These blend beautifully together!

When the ink on my card front was dry, I used my new Safari stamp set by Crafty Individuals. I stamped the gorgeous elephant stamp on the lower part of the card in the middle. I used VersaFine Clair nocturne ink and heat set it using Recollections clear embossing powder.

Since I wanted the trees to be behind the elephant, I decided to make a mask of the elephant. I stamped the elephant on another piece of cardstock and cut it out. I put it over the stamped elephant on my card front and taped it in place using mint tape. I then inked up the African tree stamps, one after the other, using VersaFine Clair nocturne ink. I stamped them where I wanted them, above and behind the elephant. I heat set both trees using Recollections clear embossing powder.

For the sentiment, I chose ‘be strong and courageous’ from this same stamp set. I stamped it in the same VersaFine Clair nocturne ink and heat set it using the same embossing powder.

I chose a grey card base which I made from the Recollections 110lb cardstock Coffee and Cream pack. To give it that little extra pop, I chose to layer a black cardstock under the card front so you see the beautiful card front, a slim black outline, then a slim grey outline. I think it turned out great.

For the inside, I cut a piece of 65lb white cardstock to 4 x 5 ¼ inches and adhered it to the grey cardstock using Forever in Time double sided glue tape. The white makes it easier to see the personalized message the sender will write.

I’m really loving this African stamp set and I feel I will get a lot of use out of it!
