Gold Dragonfly Birthday

Hey everyone! As I mentioned in my last blog post, I decided to make another card using some stickers from my huge stash of The Happy Planner stickers. This one turned out to be even more pretty! Perhaps it’s because of the shiny gold and the beautiful gold dragonfly. I think that’s one of my favorite stamps.

Alright, so I started off with an A2 card base (4 ¼ x 5 ½ inches) made from white Recollections 110lb cardstock. As I usually do at this point, I left the inside blank so there’s lots of room to write a personalized message.

For the card front, I used white 65lb Recollections cardstock cut to 4 x 5 ¼ inches. I chose several patterned rectangle stickers with gold and white. I stuck the stickers onto the cardstock then trimmed it down to 3 ½ x 4 ¾ inches. I also cut a piece of black cardstock to 3 ¾ x 5 inches to make a nice mat layer for the card front. I ran the card front with the stickers on it through my Gemini Jr. with a floral embossing folder. It gives a nice, subtle texture to the card front. I adhered the card front to the black mat layer using Craft double sided glue tape and adhered them to the card front using the same glue tape.

I decided a gold dragonfly would look perfect on this card, so I stamped my large dragonfly stamp using VersaFine Clair nocturne ink and heat set it using WOW metallic gold rich super fine embossing powder. I stamped it on 110lb cardstock which makes it nice and sturdy so I can simply glue the body down and allow the wings and tail to lift off the card. But that comes in a bit.

Next, I chose a happy birthday sentiment from the Hero Arts A Little Bird set. I decided I wanted it to be stamped on a white flower, so I chose a flower die from some shaped dies I picked up somewhere along the way. I have no idea where they’re from or what brand they are. I die cut it from white cardstock and then stamped the sentiment with VersaFine Clair nocturne ink and heat set it with Recollections clear embossing powder. I stamped it towards the bottom of the flower as I knew I wanted the dragonfly to overlap the top of the flower. I used Bearly Art glue to adhere the sentiment flower to the card front.

The final touch, and my most favorite part, is the dragonfly. I glued his body to the upper left part of the sentiment flower and curled the wings and tail, so they lift off the page making it look like the dragonfly just landed on the flower. So pretty.
