Vellum Heart Valentine

This card was fun to make as I got to use up some of the patterned vellum I’ve had on my shelf for a long time. I didn’t think of it right away, but I was glad the idea popped into my head eventually.

I started out with some options for an A2 card base and a white card panel. I had a white card base and three different shades of purple. I ended up using the lightest purple.

The idea I had from the beginning was to die cut some hearts out of the panel and either just have the card base showing behind or to place some other color behind. I die cut three hearts, all different sizes. After die cutting the hearts and choosing the card base, I had the thought of looking through my stacks of patterned vellum to see if one of them would look nice in the cut out heart spaces. I finally settled on one.

As I laid the panel over the vellum, I found the placement I wanted, cut the vellum, and glued the vellum to the back of the panel.

Next, I chose a ‘Happy Valentine’s Day’ stamp from the Close to my Heart A Little Bit of Pun stamp set and stamped it in the top right corner using VersaFine Clair nocturne ink. I adhered the panel to the card base using Tombow Xtreme adhesive.

Being that I chose the light purple card base, I decided to add a white panel to the inside of the card. This just makes any writing easier to see. Once I adhered it to the inside of the card, I felt that it was a little too plain. I used the two smaller heart cutting dies to cut out some hearts from the same patterned vellum. I glued them to the inside of the card using Bearly Art glue.

I think this card turned out really well and it has inspired me to want to make more with the patterned vellum I have. I tend to collect a lot of craft supplies and sometimes they get put away in a drawer. The typical saying, “Out of sight, out of mind” definitely is a thing. It’s important to use what you have so I plan to be more intentional this year in using what I have. That’s not to say I won’t buy some new supplies this year, but I definitely will use a lot more of what I already have and make sure not to buy duplicates.

Anyway, this was a fun card to make and I’m pleased with how it turned out. I hope you all have a happy Valentine’s Day!
