Being that it’s the start of Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada, I decided to make a card about being thankful. I believe it’s important to take time now and then to remind ourselves of what we have to be thankful for. What we spend our time thinking about really does affect our wellbeing. I’ve heard people talk about how dark the world is getting these days, and I’ve heard people talk about how bright the world is getting these days. It truly does come down to our mindset and what we choose to focus on.
Anyway, for this card, I wanted to make some more fall leaves like I had on a recent card. I have this beautiful fall wreath die by Lawn Fawn. It’s actually called Magic Iris Fall Leaves Add-On. It coordinates with the Magic Iris die which I don’t have. At this point I don’t feel I need it as the cute fall wreath with the extra leaves that are in this add-on set is what I like.
To make this card, I started by finding several scraps of white cardstock. If you’re a card maker, I’m sure you have lots of scraps of white cardstock that you hoard like me because you know you can use them sometime. Well, this is one of those times. I picked out several scraps of white cardstock and then grabbed several of my distress oxide inks. I chose fossilized amber, spiced marmalade, candied apple, peeled paint, rusty hinge, vintage photo, and ground espresso. I randomly ink blended these colors onto the cardstock. When they were dry, I cut out one fall wreath and lots of separate fall leaves. This set has two sizes of leaves. I ended up making three cards with these leaves and I still have a pile of leaves leftover.
Next, I found some scrapbook paper in some fall colors, and I die cut an adorable coffee cup from the Lovely Latte die set by Lawn Fawn. I actually cut out three of them in different colors. Since each coffee cup is several different pieces, I pieced each one together, adhering them with Bearly Art glue.
I pulled out three of my white card bases. I left one white but the other two I added scrapbook paper to the front, covering all the white cardstock. I stamped the sentiments next using VersaFine Clair nocturne ink. I chose sentiments from two different stamp sets. For the two colored cards, I used sentiments from the Treat Cart Add-On: Coffee set by Lawn Fawn. For the white card, I used a stamp set by My Favorite Things called Cup of Love.
On the two colored cards, I glued the coffee cup onto the card and then glued leaves randomly around as if they were falling from a tree above. On one of those cards, I glued a couple leaves inside the card as well. On the white card, I glued down the fall wreath then glued a few extra leaves onto the wreath. Over the center of the wreath, I glued the coffee cup. To finish these off I added diamond art gems as eyes on two of the little faces on the coffee cups.
If you’re in Canada and celebrating Thanksgiving this weekend, I encourage you to spend some time thinking about what you have to be thankful for. There is always something to be thankful for! Also, remember that it doesn’t have to be Thanksgiving for you to think about what you’re thankful for. If we only focus on thankfulness one day a year, we’ll probably end up cynical and life probably won’t be the most positive for us. Thankfulness is a choice, and we all have the ability to be thankful. With that, I’m thankful for each and every one of you who read my blogs and check out the cards I enjoy making. Happy Thanksgiving and remember to choose to be thankful.
