Sending a Hug Through the Mail

Life has many ups and downs. We all go through times of peace and times of pain. A card is a wonderful way to show love and support to someone during any stage of life.

I made this card with the thought of someone losing a loved one, although it could be used for other circumstances as well.

I kept this card very clean and simple, yet elegant. I started with a white panel cut to 4 x 5 ¼ inches, but trimmed it down to 3 7/8 x 5 1/8 inches. Towards the left side of the panel, I glued three strips of metallic cardstock that were leftover from another project. The middle strip is holographic, the two outer strips are different shades of gold. I trimmed off the edges of the strips so they are flush with the panel.

Next, I put the panel in my MISTI and positioned this beautiful floral stamp from the painted tulip stamp set by Concord & 9th. I also added the sentiment ‘I’m so sorry’ from the same stamp set. I inked the stamps with VersaFine Clair nocturne ink and stamped them onto the panel. I had to stamp a few times and really press along the edges of the metallic strips as they’re slightly raised. Once I was happy with the impression, I added clear embossing powder and heat set it with my heat tool.

I cut some black cardstock to 4 x 5 ¼ inches and glued the panel onto the black cardstock leaving a thin, black border. I then glued that onto an A2 card base.

While I don’t always like having to make these kinds of cards because that means someone somewhere is grieving, I realize grieving is a natural part of living and I’m thankful I can make a card that can let someone know I’m thinking of them during that painful time. It’s like sending a hug through the mail.
