Today I was in the mood for a Christmas card, so I dug out one of my favorite winter embossing folders, some distress oxide inks, and an emery board. Time to play!
I started by inking up a 4 ¼ x 5 ½ inch panel of white cardstock. I used four different distress oxide inks. I started with salty ocean, then added some faded jeans. I used some villainous potion more towards the top but also a bit around the rest of the edges. I finished it off with some black soot to give it a dark, wintry night feel.
When the ink was dry, I ran it through my embossing machine in the Frosted Trees embossing folder by Memory Box. It’s a gorgeous 3D embossing folder that gives a lot of texture and dimension.
To create the snow effect, I simply used an emery board to lightly rub over the entire panel, sanding the color off the very top layer of the card. This makes it look like snow is falling and landing on the trees.
Before gluing the panel onto an A2 card base, I distressed the edges with a pair of scissors. I felt that this matched the sanding of the card and gave it a more cohesive look.
To finish the card off, I stamped ‘walking in a winter wonderland’ on a piece of white shimmer cardstock using VersaFine Clair nocturne ink. I heat set it with clear embossing powder then trimmed it down and glued it onto the card. I also stamped a Christmas greeting inside the card.

This was a fun, simple, yet beautiful card to create. I hope it inspires you to dig through your embossing folders and see which ones you could use with this technique. Have fun!
