A Cute Crabby Card

Hey friends! I have a cute card to share today featuring a crab from the Ocean Dreams stamp set by Crafty Individuals. I’ve had this set for a while now and I honestly can’t remember ever using this stamp before. I’m not sure why I haven’t used it yet, as he’s so cute!

I created this card for the new challenge at Addicted to CAS and the code word for this challenge is WATER. Right away I thought of this Ocean Dreams stamp set but a lot of the stamps would fill too much space on this card which would keep it from being clean and simple. So, I chose this crab.

I started with a white panel measuring 4 x 5 ¼ inches and placed it in my MISTI. I positioned the crab stamp and stamped it with Memento tuxedo black ink. I use that ink when I know I’ll be using alcohol markers as it doesn’t react with the alcohol markers. I coloured the crab using an Ohuhu marker from the Honolulu B set. (BR3 Rose Beige) I placed it back in my MISTI (I had left my stamp in the MISTI) and stamped it again using VersaFine Clair nocturne ink. I added clear embossing powder and heat set it to give the black a nice little shine.

Being that I wanted to ink over the crab, I stamped the crab onto a scrap piece of Gina K Masking Magic and used my little Fiskars spring loaded trimmer to fussy cut this little guy out. Boy, am I glad I just got new glasses as my prescription had changed a lot and fussy cutting had been getting very difficult. I actually was having to take my glasses off to see better. With my new glasses … WOW! I can see what I need to cut!

I added the mask over the crab, then ink blended some watery colours. I used Stampin’ Up inks, starting with Lost Lagoon in the corner and fading to Pool Party. I added some Sahara Sand for the sandy beach. I added a few little marks in the sand and a few wavy lines in the water using the Stampin’ Write markers.

I stamped the sentiment ‘Sorry I was crabby’ with VersaFine Clair nocturne ink. I think it’s such an adorable sentiment.

Finally, I added a thin, black mat layer to the panel, then adhered it to the card base.

This was a fun challenge and it makes me wish I was at the beach right now. But if I can’t be at the beach, I can create beachy cards 😊 I hope you’ll come play along with us at this challenge. I am looking forward to seeing how you interpret ‘water’ into a clean and simple card.
