Sometimes Less is More

Hey friends! I had this idea to make this floral card with a pop of colour and it happens to fit well with a challenge.

I have this large floral stamp from the Friendly Flowers stamp set by Simon Says Stamp that I really love, and I’ve used a fair bit. You can use this stamp on its own, but the set also has separate stamps for the two large flowers. This is great for popping those flowers up and really making a statement.

I made this card for the TIME OUT Challenges: Challenge #306 which challenged us to pick two of the six prompts given. I chose pink and sparkle.

I stamped the large floral design onto an A2 card base using VersaFine Clair nocturne ink. I then stamped the two flowers on white cardstock using Memento tuxedo black ink. I coloured the flowers in a bright pink using an Ohuhu marker. I then stamped over them again with VersaFine Clair nocturne ink.

I cut the flowers out, then used a black marker to go around the edges which gives it a clean look and hides any imperfections from cutting. To add the sparkle, I applied clear glitter glue to the inner details of each flower.

I left the flowers to dry overnight then adhered them onto the card, popping them up with foam tape to give them some dimension.

I dug through my stamps to find a small sentiment that I could add towards the bottom of the image. I didn’t want to take away from those gorgeous flowers. I found this small ‘hi there’ stamp from the Painted Tulip stamp set by Concord and 9th and stamped it with VersaFine Clair nocturne ink.

This large stamp is very busy, but I think leaving it in black and white with just a pop of colour really makes it shine. It’s good to remember that just because we have an image with a lot of detail doesn’t mean we always have to colour it all in. Sometimes less is more.
