Hey friends! Today’s card features this sweet mermaid swimming by with some birthday wishes.
The idea for this card came from two different places. I’ve never yet played along with any challenges at Sunbird Spark before and they had this fun sketch to use for inspiration. You can see the sketch here: Sunbird Spark Challenge #58 – Sketch
I was also inspired by the birthday theme at Addicted to Stamps and More!: Challenge #513 – Birthdays
To have this card fit both parameters, I made a birthday card based on the sketch. This adorable mermaid stamp and die set includes a birthday sentiment so that worked perfectly. The stamp and die set I used is called Swimming By and it’s by Honey Bee Stamps.
I masked off half of the card, diagonally, and used a sea green ink to colour the bottom section. I used a scrap of paper to place over it here and there while adding ink to kind of mimic some movement in the water.
Using my MISTI, I stamped the mermaid on white cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I used Ohuhu markers to colour her, then restamped it using VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink. I added some sparkle with a gold Wink of Stella pen to give some shimmer to the scales, tail, and bikini top. I love how sparkly that pen is when the light catches it!

I used the coordinating die to cut out the mermaid, then placed it in the center of the card. I stamped the sentiment above and below and added an inside sentiment from the Simon Hurley Birthday Basics stamp set.

To finish this card off, I added a few gold glitter sequins that I created using the Lawn Fawn Sequin Mix die set.
I probably wouldn’t have thought of making this card if I hadn’t seen the sketch and I can always use birthday cards in my stash so that’s a win, too.
